If you have family members suffering from dementia or just starting to show some signs, you know that it’s a difficult and exhausting journey. Emotions can range from sadness to agitation to anger. If you want to love and care better, I can think of no better person to help than Teepa Snow. You can read up on her qualifications, but the things that really struck me was that she is so funny, so raw/ real and so compassionate. You can sense it in her tone and her voice. She trains professional care givers and has impacted many who deal daily with the reality of living and caring for someone with Dementia.

As scientists or clinicians, it’s easy to talk about scientific studies, beta amyloid plaques and sensitivity studies of screening tools; but at the end of the day, Dementia is about people, about relationships and about a devastating disease that slowly claims the most important parts of who we are – our memories.  In this post, I’d like to introduce you to a few of her videos that I hope will shift your thinking about Dementia.

Is it Dementia?

What is Dementia?

The Challenges of Caring

Parts 2, part 3 and part 4 of this series are also great. This video series is also a great one posted by the Alzheimer’s Support Network to support those dealing with the realities of Dementia.

I really like the quote on the back of the T-shirt for her organization.

“Until there’s a cure, there’s care.”
